The merger has already been foreshadowed. For a long time, the two galleries Pace and Kayne Griffin have been working very closely together. Together they represent artists such as Mary Corse, Robert Irwin and James Turrell. In particular, the joint presentation of Turrell's works at Frieze Los Angeles has welded them together. Now they are moving even closer together.

Marc Glimcher, CEO and president of Pace Gallery, and Bill Griffin and Maggie Kayne, founder and partner of Kayne Griffin, have now announced the union of their galleries. Pace thus has a new home in Los Angeles, led by Bill Griffin and Maggie Kayne.

Both sides benefit from the deal: Pace from contacts in the local art scene, Griffin and Kayne can expand their vision on a global scale. The incorporation into the Pace empire will take place in April. Then Pace will have a 15,000-square-foot flagship on the U.S. West Coast. 

"After some serious conversations, we decided to make that partnership official. Besides running our Los Angeles operation, Maggie and Bill will be an integral part of our global team as we continue to reimagine and reinvent Pace for the future," Glimcher said in an official statement. Incidentally, Pace's gallery, which opened in Palo Alto in 2016, will continue to operate.
