Unveiling Masterpieces: A Creative Journey

Galerie Lisa Kandlhofer

Galerie Lisa Kandlhofer, a young Austrian gallery founded in 2016, has quickly established itself as a vibrant meeting place for artists, curators, and collectors from all over the world. Located in the heart of Vienna, the gallery represents both Austrian and international artists, offering a multifaceted program that includes various media from painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and installations to a series dedicated to contemporary video works and performance.

The gallery's founder, Lisa Kandlhofer, has a unique approach to curating her gallery. She believes that every artist has a unique story to tell, and it's her mission to help them tell it. This philosophy is reflected in the gallery's diverse roster of artists, which includes Hermann Nitsch, Richie Culver, Acaye Kerunen, Sofia Borges, Faye Wei Wei, Frauke Dannert, Karl Karner, Alina Kunitsyna, James English Leary, Xie Lei, Nana Mandl, Hannah Perry, Maximilian Prüfer, Markus Redl, and Rodrigo Valenzuela.

Kandlhofer's journey into the art world was influenced by her grandfather, an architect and art collector. After spending time in Munich and New York, she returned to Vienna in 2010 and began her career as a gallerist. She used her international contacts and network to find artists for her gallery, which she initially started with a temporary space. Realizing the need for a permanent location, she opened her first permanent gallery eight years ago. The current gallery, which has been in operation for the past five years, boasts 550 square meters of space, two showrooms, a storage area, and two exhibition areas.

The gallery's exhibitions, which are planned one to one and a half years in advance, change every four to five weeks, offering visitors a fresh experience with each visit. Kandlhofer's approach to running her gallery is inclusive and welcoming. She believes in removing the barriers to art and encourages people to visit, even if they're not buying anything. Visitors are always welcomed and can request a guided tour of the current exhibition.

In addition to running her gallery, Kandlhofer is also an art collector. She invests her money in art, buying pieces that she likes and appreciates. While she acknowledges the potential for value appreciation in art, she doesn't think about selling the pieces she has bought for her private collection. She also has a sculpture park in her garden, where she has made a conscious effort to represent female artists, challenging the male-dominated nature of the sculpture art form.

Galerie Lisa Kandlhofer is more than just an art gallery. It's a hub for interdisciplinary art, a platform for emerging talent, and a welcoming space for art lovers. With its diverse roster of artists and commitment to fostering a vibrant art community, the gallery is a significant player in Vienna's art scene and beyond.
