Impact: The Echoes of Creativity in the Corridors of Time

Walter Storms Galerie

Walter Storms Galerie, located in Munich's Kunstareal, one of Europe's most significant cultural sites, is a beacon of contemporary art. The gallery is housed in a spacious, light-flooded exhibition hall designed by renowned architect Max Littmann in 1925. The hall, which spans over 500 square meters, is divided into four different exhibition rooms. Littmann's architectural prowess significantly shaped the city of Munich, and his influence is evident in the gallery's design.

The gallery's location is not its only impressive feature. Walter Storms Galerie also boasts a large exhibition space complete with a sculpture garden in the Bogenhausen district. These spaces provide ample room for the gallery to showcase a diverse range of artworks and installations.

Walter Storms established the gallery in 1977 after studying art history and archaeology. The gallery quickly gained international reputation due to its special commitment to artists from Italy, such as Marco Gastini and Giuseppe Spagnulo, and Eastern Europe, including Magdalena Jetelová and Roman Opalka. The gallery also played a crucial role in introducing then-unknown artists like Albert Hien and Michael Wesely to the art world.

The gallery's focus is on artists such as Ulrich Erben, Rupprecht Geiger, Raimund Girke, Gotthard Graubner, Otto Piene, and Günther Uecker, and in the middle generation, Roland Fischer and Peter Krauskopf. In 2009, the gallery expanded its presentation and storage capabilities considerably with the addition of a 500 square meter exhibition hall in Maxvorstadt. The first exhibition in this new space showcased the works of Sean Scully.

Over the years, Walter Storms Galerie has participated in various art fairs, including ARCO Madrid, Art Basel, Art Chicago, Art Frankfurt, Shanghai Art Fair, Art Berlin, Art Dubai, and has been a continuous participant at Art Cologne for 36 years.

The gallery has hosted numerous exhibitions, including "Collecting Sparks," which showcased over 1000 individual works and impressive room installations by the renowned New York artist Cordy Ryman. Other notable exhibitions include those of Chris Succo, Turi Simeti, Otto Piene, Günther Uecker, and Sean Scully.

Walter Storms Galerie continues to be a significant player in the contemporary art scene, not only in Munich but also on the international stage. Its commitment to promoting and showcasing a diverse range of artists and their works is a testament to its founder's vision and the gallery's ongoing dedication to the world of art.
