A Creative Journey: Unveiling Masterpieces

Modernity

Modernity, a leading international art gallery based in Stockholm and London, has been a significant player in the global art scene since its establishment in 1998. Founded by Andrew Duncanson, the gallery specializes in rare and collectible design from the Nordics, with a focus on furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting, and jewellery by the most renowned Nordic designers of the 20th century.

The gallery's large collection includes design classics by Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto, Axel Salto, Berndt Friberg, among others. In addition to these, Modernity is also proud to present outstanding unique pieces. With a strong emphasis on post-war design, Modernity has established itself as one of the leading galleries in Northern Europe.

Modernity maintains a much-frequented showroom in central Stockholm and has continuously supplied pieces to international collectors and museums, including the MoMA and Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, the LACMA in Los Angeles, and the National Museum in Stockholm. In 2019, Modernity established its London office, opening showrooms at 14 Cavendish Square and Notting Hill’s Westbourne Grove. In January 2023, the gallery opened its permanent gallery in Newson’s Yard, on the Pimlico Road, further strengthening Modernity’s presence in London and Paris.

The gallery is a regular exhibitor at various international art and design shows in London, New York, Paris, and Stockholm. Andrew Duncanson, the owner and director of Modernity, regularly holds lectures on issues surrounding 20th Century Design and is often called upon to advise private collectors. He has been a member of the jury for the Swedish Design Association's annual exhibition at Stockholm's Museum of Architecture and is also a member of the selection committee at the prestigious Pavilion of Art & Design fairs in London and Paris.

Modernity stands as a beacon of twentieth-century Nordic design in the global art scene. Its commitment to fostering artistic talent, promoting international artists, and nurturing a love for art among the public has made it a significant player in the global art scene. As it continues to evolve and expand, Modernity remains dedicated to its mission of supporting and promoting the work of innovative and pioneering artists.
