The Paintbrush: The Artist's Quill

Stair Sainty Gallery

Stair Sainty Gallery, based in London, is a renowned art gallery specializing in 16th to early 20th-century European paintings. The gallery was founded by Guy Stair Sainty, who moved to New York in 1979 after studying at Westminster School, in Rome, and at the College of Law. Guy opened his first public gallery in New York in 1982 and quickly established himself as a specialist in 18th, 19th, and early 20th-century French painting. Over time, he expanded into Spanish and Italian painting of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries.

The gallery's team also includes Elizabeth Frost Pierson, the Creative Director, who brings a broad spectrum of experience from her years working in the art world at Sotheby’s/New York, for painting dealers in New York, Rome, and London, and within her own consultancy. Thomas Smith, the Gallery Director, brings his expertise in history and international politics, along with his experience working for the National Trust and the Royal Collection in their Decorative Arts department.

Stair Sainty Gallery has participated in numerous art fairs and exhibitions, including TEFAF Maastricht 2023, one of the finest art fairs in the world, where galleries from across the globe showcase fine art and antiques spanning thousands of years of history. The gallery also participated in London Art Week 2023, where they presented 15 paintings under the prestigious banner of LAW, all highlights of their eclectic collection of European paintings.

The gallery has also embraced the digital world, launching a YouTube channel, Stair Sainty Digital, as part of their commitment to share more of their artworks online. This platform hosts a series of short films looking at aspects of the life and work of individual artists through specific paintings on show in the gallery.

Stair Sainty Gallery continues to uphold its legacy of promoting European fine art, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their work. As it looks towards the future, the gallery remains committed to exploring the human condition through art and fostering dialogue within the art community.
